The Basset Hound Club of Northern Ireland formed as a branch of the Basset Hound Club in 1965 with a membership of about twenty five and it has risen to over 50 in 2013.
In November 1973 the branch became a club in its own right. The Basset Hound Club of Northern Ireland held its first open show in 1974 and championship show status was granted in 1976. A championship show is held every year and in 2015 we will celebrate our 40th anniversary Championship Show.
Mr and Mrs Bridgham of the Ballymaconnel affix were instrumental in forming the Club with Sungarth Placid being their foundation bitch. Their most noted dog was CH and Ir Ch Ballymaconnell Forrester who sired a number of promising stock including Ch Stormfield Hugo. Gypsy Bridgham was President of The Club until her death in 1998.
